Some rooms at three Disney Vacation Club destinations are set to close temporarily, while air travel in-and-out of the central Florida area will also experience major disruptions.
Walt Disney World has announced that portions of three resorts will close beginning at 9:00am on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. Included are:
- Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground
- The Cascade Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge
- Treehouse Villas at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort
Current plans call for the Cascade Cabins to reopen on Friday, October 11 while Fort Wilderness and the Treehouse Villas hope to resume operations on Sunday, October 13. These areas are frequently impacted by large storms in the Walt Disney World area due to the likelihood of flying debris and downed tree limbs. Once the storm has passed, crews will evaluate the area and make sure it is suitable to begin welcoming guests.
Guests who are currently staying on-site in these accommodations should have been contacted by Disney to relocate to alternate lodging. Anyone who has not made such arrangements should speak to a cast member at the resort front desk.
No theme park closures or other operational adjustments have yet been announced by Walt Disney World. Visit their weather updates page for the latest information.
Those who have not yet arrived may encounter problems with their travel plans. Orlando International Airport (MCO) has announced that it will halt commercial passenger traffic on Wednesday, October 9. The airport currently does not plan to close, but is uncertain when it will resume operations. Tampa International Airport (TPA) was set to suspend flights the morning of Tuesday, October 8. Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) has not yet announced plans to close.
Milton is currently a Category 4 hurricane with wind gusts up to 140 miles per hour. It is expected to make landfall near Tampa around 2:00am on Thursday, October 10. The current track has it moving up the I-4 corridor, potentially arriving in the Disney area as a Category 2 hurricane around 8am on Thursday. The storm could bring up to 12 inches of rainfall in a short period. It is not expected to pose a threat to South Carolina, including Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort.
Disney Vacation Club's hurricane policy is currently in effect, allowing guests with upcoming reservations to change or cancel with no penalty. Contact DVC Member Services for assistance.
